Meeting Information:
The 44th annual meeting will be at the Marriott Renaissance New Orleans Arts Warehouse District Hotel. They have contracted with the SPNS for the upcoming 2019 meeting.  A block of rooms has been reserved for SPNS meeting attendees at a reduced rate.  Attendees can make reservations by calling 504-613-2330.  Make sure you let the clerk know you are attending the meeting.  It is best to make reservations early as frequently these rooms will sell out.  The cut off date for the reduced reservation rate is February 16th, 2019.

The meeting will be held on March 30, 2019. It will begin at 8:00 AM and conclude a 5:00 PM. The two invited speakers will present one hour lectures. Other presentations during the day are given by junior and senior members and generally last 10-15 minutes each with 5 minutes for discussion. Presentation of original research is encouraged, but may also be interesting case presentations. Two awards are available for the best junior member presentations. SAGE Inc., publisher of the Journal of Child Neurology, sponsors the Roger and Mary Brumback Sage Award of Excellence. This is an award of $1000 and a plaque. The M. Caroline Duncan Award is sponsored by the SPNS with an award of $500 and a plaque. This award is given in honor of Dr. Duncan for her great contributions to the education of numerous medical students, residents, fellows and peers.

There are generally 14 – 16 speakers with two additional invited speakers in attendance at the meeting. This year, Dr. Scott Perry will give the Paul Dyken Scholarship lecture, "Dravet Syndrome: From Clinical Diagnosis to Precision Medicine." Dr. Jan-Mendelt Tillema will present the John Bodensteiner Presidental lecture, "Autoimmune Encephalopathy." 

The majority of our funding comes from pharmaceutical companies in the form of educational grants. Dues of $150 per attendee, excluding speakers, cover additonal costs of CME's and meeting expenses.

There are generally 55 - 60 attendees. Physicians, nurses and other health care professionals interested in pediatric neurology are invited to attend. There is an abstract form available on the Resources page of our website. The deadline for the abstract submission is December 30th, 2018 and a CV must accompany the abstract submission. Please include titles and institutions of each author.

44th Annual Southern Pediatric Neurology Meeting

OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe current focused treatment options in neurological diseases.
  2. Discuss relevant evaluation technique and current genetic assessments as they pertain to pediatric neurology patients.
  3. Describe the neuropathological and neuroradiographical findings in neurological diseases.
  4. Identify related neurogenetic diseases that have been recently discovered and discussed recently in the medical literature.


CME CREDIT:  6.5 Credit 

INTENDED AUDIENCE:   This activity is specifically directed towards the pediatric neurologist but it is open to all other interested physicians, residents, medical students and allied health professionals.
